Role overview
Compliance Counsel · Sydney / Melbourne · Hybrid (2–3 days in hub).
Mission
Own the legal, privacy and compliance posture of a category-defining AI platform serving regulated commercial environments.
Responsibilities
- Advise on Privacy Act 1988, Spam Act, Do Not Call Register, Australian Consumer Law and ASIC-adjacent considerations.
- Work with engineering to embed compliance controls at the data and workflow level.
- Own the customer contracting lifecycle in partnership with commercial teams.
- Support privacy impact assessments, DPAs and vendor reviews.
- Contribute to responsible-AI framework development.
Success measures
- Contracts land on agreed timelines without unresolved legal risk.
- Compliance posture is documented, current and demonstrable to enterprise customers.
- Product changes are reviewed against regulatory obligations before release.
Required experience
- Admitted Australian legal practitioner with meaningful privacy, technology or regulated-industry experience.
- Comfortable operating independently and pragmatically inside a fast-moving company.
Preferred experience
- Experience with SaaS commercial contracting.
- Exposure to AI, automotive, financial services or consumer-facing regulation.

Working style
Hybrid (2–3 days in hub). Remote-friendly across Australia with hybrid time in the Melbourne and Sydney hubs where useful.
